Forte is an auditioned ensemble performance program, focusing on fiddle and improvisational skills. Launching in September 2024, the program will focus on bridging the gap between classical pedagogy and traditional styles, specifically within an ensemble. The program is led by Shawna Dose of Bluebird Violin Studio and is open to violin and viola students age 8-18 on an auditioned basis.
Auditions are now open! Space is limited and auditions will be evaluated on a first-come-first-serve basis. Students are encouraged to audition ASAP! Audition
OBJECTIVES:
For many classically trained students, there is a gap between playing known repertoire and finding one's own voice and musicianship and the tools to creatively improvise with other musicians in contemporary formats. Forte teaches the skills to bridge that gap.
Becoming more familiar with fiddle techniques and repertoire will enhance classical playing as well as overall musicianship.
Creative exploration helps students find their own personal musical style and develop ownership of their musical “voice”.
Forte repertoire will include fiddle tunes and selected popular songs along with spontaneous compositions.
To teach the skill of improvisation
To improve knowledge of music theory through hands-on application
To cultivate a love for performing and sharing the gift of music
To teach ensemble skills and prepare students for non-classical musical opportunities such as jam sessions, church worship groups, etc.
To enjoy music together and bring the joy of music to others within our community!
To have FUN!
